Calendar questions are easier when students can see the month grid. The grid gives them rows, columns, weekday headings and date numbers to use as evidence.

Start with locating dates
Before students calculate, ask them to point to the date on the calendar. This keeps the work grounded in the visible month rather than memory.

- Ask students to name the weekday column before selecting a date.
- Set a start date and end date so the range is highlighted.
- Read elapsed days and inclusive days as two different ideas.
Use events to make ranges meaningful
Simple event labels make calendar examples feel like real schedules. Add an event to a date, then ask what happens before, after or between two events.
Open the current month, set today as the start date, choose an end date later in the month, then compare elapsed days, inclusive days and weekdays.
Move from model to practice
After students can reason from the open calendar, move to the calendar practice app for independent questions. If they count the start date incorrectly, return to the explorer and count the spaces between dates.
