Place value houses

The houses: Place value houses help you to understand and say large numbers. From the right, the houses are formed as groups of three digits. The first house has no name. The second house is called the 'Thousands', followed by the 'Millions' and so on.

Why is it useful?: If you want to say any large number, read the group of digits starting from the left in a single box. For example, if the 'Millions' house contains '365' then read it as 'Three hundred and sixty-five million'. Repeat this until there are no numbers or houses left to pronounce.

How to use: Choose the size of number you want to practise, type the number in that section, then press Read Number. The page will say the number aloud and highlight each place-value house as it is read.
