Maths vocabulary can feel unfamiliar even when the idea is simple. Parents can help by using useful maths words in low-pressure everyday situations.
Use the word in a real moment
You do not need a worksheet to talk about maths. Shopping, cooking, sport and travel all give natural reasons to estimate, compare, measure and describe chance.
- Estimate how many minutes until you leave.
- Compare two prices at the shop.
- Find the total number of plates needed.
- Talk about whether rain is likely or unlikely.
Keep it conversational
The aim is not to turn every moment into a lesson. A quick question and a quick explanation can make the language feel normal before it appears in a school task.
